Portugal

Procedure

For highly qualified employment, you must obtain a visa for obtaining a residence permit. This visa is valid for two entries and for four months, during which time its holder must apply to the Agência para a Integração, Migrações e Asilo (AIMA) for a residence permit - the Portuguese Blue Card.

A residence visa does not automatically grant you a right of residence but allows you to enter Portugal for the purpose of applying for a residence permit, when the requirements are met. You must prove that you have an adequate consignment, a work contract or a written proposal.
Visit your local Portuguese consulate to request the appropriate visa.

Portugal does not clearly communicate changes to the minimum salary requirement for the Portuguese Blue Card. Based on our estimate, which is also supported by Fragomen’s estimate, a gross annual salary of at least €35,000 (2026) would be a safe figure.
